Serve your Local School

The Serve Your Local School website is the go-to site for supporting links between schools and local churches. Though written primarily for church members and leaders, it is equally useful for teachers who wish to develop links with what are generally the largest and most accessible voluntary organisations in their community – local churches.

The core of the site is a series of Simple Ideas, Medium Ideas and Grand Ideas, all of which are easily put into practice. Ideas are specifically tailored to the Primary and Secondary Sectors. While some adaptation may be needed, many suggestions are equally applicable in the RC as well as the non-denominational sectors.

Simple Ideas include feeding staff at a parents evening, paired reading, helping with school trips. Medium Ideas range from a Musicians in Schools programme to organising Supported Study groups. Grand Ideas include organising a Prayer Spaces in School Week to facilitating an Inspire Aspire Award programme

The site offers:

1. Awareness-raising: Helping churches to see the opportunities available to serve schools, and understand the legislation which encourages schools to invite faith-based workers to participate in the life of the school.
2. Inspiration: Sharing good practice and stories of successful initiatives amongst churches in order to inspire them as to what is possible.
3. Equipping: Information about – and numerous practical examples of – the options and resources available, together with back-up support and contacts.
