Bible Alive

The Bible Alive programme, run by Scripture Union Scotland, aims to teach children in P5–P7 the whole story line of the Bible in a series of interactive multi-media lessons.
The programme is flexible and the whole Bible is usually taught in schools in one hour lessons over 5–8 weeks. It has been designed to fulfil many of the experiences and outcomes in the RME section of Curriculum for Excellence. Over 60 Scottish schools have already welcomed Bible Alive.
Bible Alive uses story-telling, music, drama, puppets, quizzes, activities, props and costumes to bring the Bible to life. It is held together by Rhyme & Sign, a set of ten rhyming couplets which recap the story of the Bible, accompanied by British Sign Language signs.
To request input to your school’s RME programme from Bible Alive presenters , please contact the Bible Alive Coordinator, Lesley Crawford on Lesley.Crawford@suscotland.org.uk
Bible Alive has been well received in schools:
“It is a unique way of presenting RME in line with CfE and teaching staff who were present were amazed at the way in which the children listened and remembered as well as the interactive nature of the lessons. I personally have not seen anything better in this area of the curriculum.” (Primary Teacher)
Everyone using Bible Alive in schools has successfully completed a training course. Training courses (option of day-time or residential courses) provide ideas and techniques which enable the presenter to choose from a menu of options and guidance on covering the story of the Bible in 5-8 sessions. Information about the course content and future training courses can be found on the Bible Alive training page –
