myLife

myLife is a portfolio of life and social skills courses designed for dual-delivery, comprising both an accredited group course and one-to-one mentoring sessions. Because it is fully matched with Curriculum for Excellence Experiences and Outcomes (in Health and Wellbeing and other areas) it offers schools a valuable resource in Personal and Social Education/Health and Wellbeing, especially for:
- Young people who are disengaged from learning.
- Young people with additional learning needs.
- Young people at risk of offending, in custody or being resettled.
The myLife programme is an online, password protected website of ASDAN accredited courses with downloadable resources aimed at supporting teachers and youth workers working in schools as mentors.
There are a growing number of myLife approved tutors in Scotland; please email Sandra.blair@yfc.co.uk to see if there is one in your community already.
A varied choice of ‘pick and mix’ sessions allow programme content to be tailored to the specific needs of each individual. The programme empowers young people to make more considered choices in light of consequences and become positive contributors to society, helping them to acquire essential independent living, social and thinking skills. The programme makes full use of print and media resources, and provides a detailed toolkit for teachers.
myLife has been written to fulfil the criteria for credits towards the ASDAN Bronze Award along with the option of a Reflex Internal Certification. Low-literacy worksheets sheets are provided to give the young people a lasting record of their learning and achievement, and to evidence their hours and individual contributions. Each myLife course has been mapped into Curriculum for Excellence with relevant documentation provided at Tutor training.
There are currently 10 courses in the myLife suite (20 Guided Learning Hours each), containing well over 200 hours of material and with up to 15 more courses in development. For details of the content of current courses, see attached PDF/info sheet; further down the page.
