Summer 2025 Reading Recommendations from Galilee Books

In Matthew, we see the surprise of disobedient obedience. In Mark, it is the surprise of the king undergoing the fate of a criminal. In Luke, the focus is on insiders becoming outsiders and the outsiders becoming insiders, and in John the glorious mystery of the Creator of the universe becoming one of his own creatures.

Ortlund is an engaging writer who keeps our focus on the grace and mercy of Jesus throughout. The book is less than 200 pages with short chapters that can be read in around 15 minutes each.

Meet an abortion clinic owner who now runs a crisis pregnancy centre; a former drug dealer turned pastor; a young woman who lived  for several years as a man, and now works alongside her husband in a ministry to others who struggle with their identity; and a woman whose faith grew during a prison sentence for a crime she did not commit.

These are remarkable stories that remind us that nobody is beyond God’s reach.  The  storytelling is engaging, and it would make a great summer read.

My Diary – Emily Owen £7.99

This is the junior version of Emily’s life story, beginning when she is 12 years old, and aimed at upper primary school children and young teens.  The diary format makes it an easy read, and she writes with real humour, while being honest about her struggles.  She covers issues such as self-image, self-worth, loss, faith, perseverance, mental health, and above all the faithful God who has a  good plan for each of his children.

This is a moving, challenging, and honest book about how what Christians believe applies in real life, and reminds readers that God’s grace is enough for whatever we face. An amazing story from an engaging writer!
