Christian Aid: Beliefs and Actions in the World

The unit explores similarities and differences in the ways that faith based organisations like Christian Aid and Islamic Relief work to change the world. Detailed teachers’ notes provide a range of lesson ideas, from role-play, to learning games, to analysing the websites of Christian Aid and Islamic Relief, to discussion topics etc.

All activities are linked to detailed Leaning Outcomes. While all Outcomes are from the English non-statutory National Framework for RE, they can readily be connected with Curriculum for Excellence Experiences and Outcomes.

This unit focuses on the work of Christian Aid and Islamic Relief. It enables pupils to explain beliefs and their impact, and to compare and contrast aspects of religion in action. Pupils develop their understanding of community and relate what they learn to their own questions of value and commitment. The unit skilfully explores similarities and differences in how goodness and community are understood by Christianity and Islam, asking about some ways in which Muslim and Christian charities contribute to the wellbeing of all.
