RSHP resources for Early Years, First and Second Levels
Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood resources for Early Years, First and Second Levels.
Overview of CVE Scotland RSHP Project
In early summer 2024, CVE Scotland released a comprehensive set of free RSHP (Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood) resources for Third/Fourth Level and Senior Phase learners. These can be accessed via our website after a simple registration process:
Go to registration page: Register – CVE Scotland (cve-scotland.org.uk)
These resources are designed to complement the official RSHP.Scot materials. They aim to help teachers deliver lessons that are objective, age-appropriate, and inclusive – especially for pupils with religious beliefs – and to help schools respond to possible parental concerns.
We also provide alternative content suggestions (videos, images, and PowerPoint slides) where the standard materials may present ideological views as fact or may not be suitable for certain classroom contexts.
Purpose and Educational Values
Our resources are grounded in the principle of informed choice. Pupils are supported to:
Make decisions appropriate for their age and stage.
- Reflect on the moral and spiritual dimensions of relationships and sexuality.
- Understand the concept of sexual integrity – where beliefs, values, and behaviour align.
- Set personal boundaries and take responsibility for their actions.
Early Years, First and Second Level RSHP Resources – Comhairle nan Eilean Siar
An excellent collection of RSHP materials for Early Years and First/Second Levels has been developed by a working group of teachers and headteachers from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.
These educators:
- Reviewed all existing RSHP content.
- Created detailed planners aligned with the CfE Experiences & Outcomes and Benchmarks.
- Ensured the learning is coherent, progressive, and contextually relevant, particularly for religious communities in the Western Isles.
Recognising the high quality of these materials – commonly referred to as the “Lewis Planners” – and how they share the same aim/values as the CVE Scotland RHSP project, we sought and were granted permission from Donald Macleod, Chief Officer for Education and Children’s Services, to share them with a wider audience on our own platform. These RSHP resources can be downloaded from their Blog site using the links below.

The Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Working Group also strongly recommends that:
- Schools share all planner materials with parents.
- Special attention be given to the resources under the Physical Changes and Sexual Health and Sexuality organisers.
- The best-practice flowchart provided be used to guide communication with families.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar RSHP Working Group for their dedication in creating and maintaining this valuable resource.
CVE Scotland Early Years, First and Second Level RSHP Resources
The CVE Scotland RSHP Project Leader has also curated a list of resources for First and Second Level topics. These supplement and complement those of the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Working Group and can be downloaded using the links below:-

Final Steps of the CVE Scotland RSHP Project: Explainer Events in 2025
To support schools and families, CVE Scotland will host two online Explainer events in 2025:
- One event tailored for parents.
- One event focused on teaching staff.
These sessions will offer practical guidance on how to use the materials confidently and appropriately in classrooms.
