Equipped for Equality
Parents and pupils (and others at school too) will find this booklet helpful in navigating the challenges that present themselves as a secular worldview increasingly pervades our education system. We are grateful to the Christian Institute for spelling out the protections afforded to each of us by the Equality Act 2010 and the Human Rights Act 1998.
As Christians we want to be known as people who are quick to show kindness as we embody Jesus to all those we meet and are eager to listen to and try to understand other people. Sometimes we feel confused about what can and can’t happen in school; sometimes we are unsure whether we are allowed to express concern; at times it feels as if the Equality Act gives more freedoms to secular pupils than to religious ones. Although the booklet ‘Equipped for Equality’ does not constitute legal advice it does give us guidelines as to how to conduct ourselves today.
Published in November 2019, copies are available to download via the Christian Institute website, or paper copies can be ordered through the Christian Institute or from CVE Scotland (both without charge).
