Ethos Education

This site incorporates much material previously carried by the highly respected Damaris site. It includes a wide range of resources using contemporary film as a teaching tool. Each film featured comes with a full supporting pack of resources ready for delivery. The resource groupings would be useful for:

• Assemblies for primary and school aged children.

• R.M.P.S. lessons from mid-primary and secondary.

• SuperBook resources for primary aged children

• S5-6 resources suitable for classroom use and/or conferences.

This site would be useful for:

• Teachers

• Youth workers

• School chaplains

• Workers with international students/workers

The website is divided into two main sections: Ethos Education and Ethos Media.

Ethos Education has 7 areas to explore, including assemblies, RE lessons, 6th Form Tutor time, A level RE, 6th Form Conferences and Superbook resources

Each of these offers complete lessons with Bible references, supporting values the lesson is targeting and some of the following; Powerpoint presentations and script, activity suggestions, discussion topics, reflection points, summary point for assessment and prayer.

Ethos Education also provides 6th Form Conferences previously provided by Damaris covering RE-related topics, though these are probably more relevant to English schools.

The resources are all downloadable and free but the films that the lessons are based on have to be bought separately. However, the teaching materials do include alternative options/approaches if the DVDs are not used.

The 6th Form material is linked to the English curriculum rather than the SQA courses. Nevertheless it provides useful resources and stimuli for discussion.  Some of the issues covered include accepting differences, forgiveness, human rights, morality in wartime, anger, God, family and friendship.
