Godly Play Scotland

Godly Play Scotland is a non profit making, voluntary organisation which was set up in 2010, as a sister movement to Godly Play UK.
The aim of Godly Play Scotland is simply to support and inform those starting out in Godly Play or wanting to find out what it is all about.
If you have not come across Godly Play, the method is particularly suitable if you are looking for a different or complementary approach to Christian education. Although it was initially aimed at children, it is equally suitable for all age groups and in many different situations.
As Godly Play is radically different from traditional teaching methods and very effective, it is really difficult to describe its impact – much better to come and let us show you!
Godly Play accredited trainers offer Christian Religious Education sessions, using an experiential discovery method, which engages the child’s hands, heart, mind, senses and intuition.
During a Godly Play session a child’s verbal and nonverbal gateways will be stimulated by providing sensorial and kinaesthetic materials to stimulate their learning.
Godly Play sessions can be used as a one-off experience or offered as a series of classes throughout the school year across all ages, with a maximum of 30 children in each session.
The Godly Play Stories cover all aspects of the Bible and the liturgical life of the Church, such as:
Creation, Noah and the Flood, People of the Old Testament, The Ten Commandments, The Prophets, The Christmas Story, The Parables, The Life of Jesus, The Easter Story, The first Christians and the Saints, Baptism and Communion.
Godly Play offer Discovery Days to give an opportunity to experience what a Godly Play session might include and to witness the benefits first hand.
To ensure that the Godly Play experience runs well, the school/church would need to provide:
- a room where children can sit in a circle with and space for art materials to be laid out.
- if available, cushions or similar for children.
- a member of staff to help to:
- bring the children into the Godly Play area
- be available to help children to respond to the story if required
- help to serve the feast to the children
For those interested in becoming Godly Play providers, Godly Play offer various training and networking opportunities. See their website for further details:
