Christian Aid – Just Living

This is a free, online Christian Aid resource, which helps senior pupils to:

  • Undertake an in-depth study of Christian values in response to global poverty and justice
  • Look at the work of a Christian charity
  • Think critically about the meaning of poverty and its causes
  • Examine emergency and long-term aid.

The wide range of materials deal with morality, ethics, community and Christian teaching on responding to others’ needs. The resource is divided into the following four units to support the relevant elements of GCSE Religious Studies, but certainly contains useful resources for Curriculum for Excellence Level 4 and Senior Phase.

Each unit comprises teachers’ notes and lesson plans, some excellent video clips, resource sheets, photos to download (for pupils’ own projects):

Unit 1: Why should Christians help the poor?
An examination of teachings in the Bible that inspire believers to help the disadvantaged.
Unit 2: What is Christian Aid?
The work of a Christian organisation.
Unit 3: What is poverty?
Examining what poverty is and what causes it.
Unit 4: Emergency and long-term aid
Examples of aid that Christian Aid is involved in, including disaster preparedness and sustainable development.
