Missy the Seagull and the 5 Marks of Mission

With highly attractive graphics based on a seaside theme, Missy helps us think about how we can be part of God’s mission in an accessible way. Each story is free to download, with each zip file containing a Word document, a PowerPoint presentation and the images for the story in a folder.

In Missy the Seagull and the Fishing Net, Missy sees a ripped net with fish in it and shares the good news with the other seagulls. This story illustrates the 1st Mark of Mission, which states “To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom.”

In Missy the Seagull and the Young Diver, Missy helps to encourage a young seagull to dive for fish. This story illustrates the 2nd Mark of Mission, which states “To teach, baptise and nurture new believers.”

In Missy the Seagull and the Lost Dolphin, Missy sees a lost dolphin in need and helps him to be reunited with his family. This story illustrates the 3rd Mark of Mission, which states “To respond to human need by loving service.”

In Missy the Seagull and the Lighthouse, Missy sees a broken lighthouse and does something to get it fixed. This story illustrates the 4th Mark of Mission, which states “To seek to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and to pursue peace and reconciliation.”

In Missy the Seagull and the Trapped Seal, Missy rescues a seal trapped by nets and rubbish. This story illustrates the 5th Mark of Mission, which states “To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth.”
