Prayer Newsletter: Autumn 2025

Dear Friends,

As the crisp autumn air settles in and leaves paint Scotland’s hills and mountains in vibrant hues, we warmly welcome you to our Autumn Prayer Newsletter for Christian Values in Education (CVE) Scotland!

This season invites us to pause, reflect, and lift our hearts in prayer. Please join us in giving thanks for the beauty around us, His goodness to our organisation, and seeking guidance for specific events and our future direction. Your prayers are a light in this cosy, colourful time!

In this season of change, we pray that God grants teachers, school workers, and those serving in local schools wisdom to guide young minds, patience to nurture every student, and strength to face each day’s challenges.May classrooms be places of warmth, growth, and inspiration, reflecting the beauty of God’s creation and His peace guide their work.

Building on the themes of our previous quarterly newsletter, we hope you’ll find these 31 prayer points inspiring for your quiet time over the coming months. Please consider sharing these prayer points with your church leadership for corporate prayer or with your school ministry hub.

	Please pray for school staff, school visitors and pupils: –
1	Thank God for staff and volunteers in Scottish schools running lunch-time and after-school groups to share the good news of Jesus with those who might not otherwise hear it.
2	Pray that children and young people may be encouraged to attend Christian lunch-time and after-school groups by their friends and schools staff. May these groups be spaces to talk freely and explore the Bible together.
3	During this time of Harvest, many schools take the opportunity to hold special services. May our Creator God be seen during these services and it give those who take part reason to consider His goodness.
4	A recent School Leaders Scotland report laid out the immense pressures facing school leaders across our land with average working hours exceeding 53 hours and 61% of leaders having considered leaving the profession earlier than planned. Pray that God may uphold education staff in senior positions and help them take decisions which sustain Christian values.
5	Youth for Christ’s Z-A A Growing Spirituality Research Report Part 1 recently shared a growing spiritual openness with our 11-18s. The Times newspaper quoted in March “sales of the Bible are rocketing in Britain, figures show, with publishers crediting the increasing spirituality of Gen Z”. Give thanks to God that He is moving with this generation.
6	Pray for probationer teachers in their first term of teaching. Pray that they may cope with the workload and their classes and timetable. Pray too that those of faith can stand firm for Him and find a way to serve the Saviour in their school.
7	Pray for guidance for students who are struggling. Equip staff to support students facing academic or personal struggles, offering hope and direction and demonstrating the love of Christ.
8	Pray that teachers may be surrounded by a supportive community; encouraging colleagues, parents, chaplains and school leaders to foster a collaborative environment.
9	As senior school students across Scotland attend University and College Open Days in the coming weeks, pray that God may guide them in their future place of study and course choice.
10	Pray for the mental and spiritual health of pupils who are anxious in class. Remember SU Scotland’s Ministry at the Margins and ASN staff and volunteers.
11	Unity in Diversity: Pray that teachers and school staff foster inclusive classrooms where every child feels valued irrespective of background, ability, ethnicity and religion, reflecting Scotland’s rich community tapestry.
12	Pray that teachers possess creativity in their lessons, inspiring innovative ways to spark curiosity and make learning vibrant and God-honouring. May Christian staff draw encouragement from Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
13	Pray that God will call Christians into teaching and educational leadership roles to shine His light in schools across our nation.
14	Give thanks for the October mid-term break: Pray that this may be a time of refreshment and renewal for school staff.
	Please pray for the Autumn newsletter themes: –
15	Give thanks for the Catalyst 2025 conference held in Inverness last month. Pray that those who attended may be encouraged to engage with their local school communities.
16	Give thanks for the different organisations who participated in Catalyst and pray that the Lord may uphold their area of service; Youth for Christ Scotland, Scottish Bible Society, SU Scotland, Transforming Lives for Good, the Christian Institute, Unite for Education, Out of the Box, Melville-Knox Highland and the Kingsview Christian Centre.
17	Give thanks for the team involved in the Soup and Pudding Lunch in Stornoway on Saturday 8th November. Pray that it will be an opportunity to share a little of the work of CVE Scotland with those who come along.
18	Give thanks for those churches and groups who made use of the Back to School with God 2025 resources this year. Pray that the truth of Jesus being All I Need remains in the hearts of the children, young people and adults who took part in these special services.
19	Pray for team of SU Scotland, CVE Scotland and Church Youth Workers who have started on the planning for Back to School with God 2026 resources. May God lead them in all preparations that He might get all the glory and honour in how the resources are used next year.
20	Pray that the Z-A A Growing Spirituality Report (Part 1) from Youth for Christ inspires those working in school communities. May Part 2, due in October, continue to encourage and stir God’s people across the land.
21	Give thanks to the good contacts made at the recent RechargePLUS conference in Glasgow. Pray that we may be able to serve and be an encouragement to those who engage in schoolwork for Christ.
	Please pray for the work of CVE Scotland: –
22	Give thanks for unity within the Management Committee as we sought a path for the new Strategy and Vision document, seeking to focus on supporting Christian teachers and workers in schools.
23	Pray for the continued progression of plans for IGNITE; a National Schools’ Work Gathering on Saturday 22 November 2025. Pray that there will be a sense of excitement and anticipation amongst churches to support their children and youth workers to attend.
24	Give thanks for the various organisations who are participating in IGNITE including Erin Docherty, National Mental Health Lead at Oasis Community Learning in Birmingham who will be leading several sessions. Pray that all speakers will seek His face to give a word in season to those who attend.
25	Give thanks for the service of Megan Patterson, Chair of CVE Scotland, and Rev Dr Steve Younger, School Chaplaincy Project Leader, who will both step down at the Annual General Meeting in November.
26	Thank God for continuing engagement with CVE Scotland social media channels and for the volunteers who have helped achieved this. Pray that the posts will be God honouring and supportive to those who read them.
27	Pray for opportunities for CVE Scotland to research how we can best help equip, network and support teachers and school staff in 2026. Pray that future Teacher Meet-Up events may be a power for good in this process.
28	Please give thanks to God for the talent and service of CVE Scotland’s volunteers in the areas of Information Technology, events and social media management and school engagement. Pray for those who are currently considering serving in other ways.
29	Pray that the Lord work in the hearts and minds of those who can serve with CVE Scotland as future Trustees or members of the Management Committee.
30	In the final stage of the RSHP project, give thanks for Comhairle nan Eilean Siar staff participating in two online Explainer events in November, sharing resources for Early Years, First, and Second Levels.
31	Give thanks to God for His goodness in the lives of those who can financially support the work of CVE Scotland. Pray that there may be more who feel able to give regularly, and that funds raised may be used in a God honouring way.
