RE Lessons Online

RE Lessons Online provides free downloadable RE Lessons, based around popular feature films, designed to engage school pupils in exploring the biblical text in the RE curriculum. New RE Lessons published each term, based on new film releases.

While written for English Key Stages 3 & 4 (Years 7-9 and Years 10-11) its approach is to provide culturally up-to-date, active-learning resource material – which can therefore be readily adapted for a Scottish context.

Each lesson is clearly structured around a number of learning objectives. While no specific links are made to Curriculum for Excellence, there is much which can be readily adapted.

Each lesson outline makes use of a media clip (film or TV). In some cases, downloadable film clips are provided, but more often the relevant DVD will need to be hired or purchased. For each film, a link to Amazon is provided. Where a film clip is referenced, clear timings are given for each clip. There is also a comprehensive set of activities and downloadable worksheets etc.

The site has been running since 2001 (it was previously operated by Damaris) and has over 650 lessons available.

The site is large and regularly updated, so repays periodic visits. For the latest news, subscribe to the fortnightly email Ethos Update.

Also available from the Homepage of the EthosEducation site https://ethoseducation.org/ is a set of video-based A Level RE lessons, using a helpful annotation technique that draws pupils into the text (in partnership with Oxford University Press)
