Seriously Awkward

A series of six sessions that give the latest insight on some of the most challenging issues that face young people today, around identity and mental health. Designed to help young people support their peers, they are primarily intended for Youth Groups, and therefore highly relevant to a Scripture Union/Christian Union group for older pupils in a secondary school. However, this excellent material could be adapted for use in a school assembly/Time for Reflection.
As session 1 points out, nothing is beyond sharing because nobody is beyond God’s love.
The six sessions explore everything from mental health, well-being and self-harm to sexting:
Session 1: Identity- anchors the series in the idea that nothing is beyond sharing because nobody is beyond God’s love.
Session 2: Mind matters- explores mental health, well-being and self-harm for young people and their friends.
Session 3: Healthy relationships- provides ways to engage in otherwise awkward conversations.
Session 4: presents sexting- social media and Snapchat from a faith perspective without just saying ‘don’t’.
Session 5: Seriously Awkward- why 16 and 17 year olds are particularly vulnerable and how to support them.
Session 6: Make a difference- empowers young people to creatively express themselves and what they’ve learnt.
