Ten Must Know Bible Stories’ Christmas resources
The Scottish Bible Society’s MUST KNOW BIBLE STORIES resources are free downloadable resources to help primary teachers explore Bible stories with their class as part of the RME curriculum. They include lesson plans, outdoor learning and play based learning ideas packed with active learning suggestions to help children engage with the learning and encourage them to discuss and explore how faith and belief affect the world they live in. They’re designed to make RME teaching easy, relevant and engaging and include links across the whole curriculum.

Sue and Fiona, from Ten Must Know Bible Stories, write:
Our Early Level Christmas resources include
- a quick guide to help you get the most out of what’s on offer,
- an early level story script,
- some simple, but interactive teacher-led ideas to explore the story further with your class and
- a mind-map of ideas for play contexts that can easily be set up in a Nursery or class play area. These allow the children to explore the Christmas story at their own level, but also provide links and suggested teacher prompts of how to extend learning further.
Best of all, all our resources are ready-made for practitioners to pick up and use. Try these two ideas from the resources:
Hunt the Nativity Figures and Kim’s Game
Hide wooden nativity figures (or nativity pictures) outside or in your classroom area, enough for one each for each of your class. Hunt the figures, then come back together and play Kim’s game with the characters. As you play the game chat about the characters, who are they? What do they do in the story? How do you think they felt? (see the full activity in Teacher-led Activities, numbers 5 and 6).
Make a breadstick stable with an apple star above it (cut the apple through the middle horizontally) and enjoy it for snack. (see more snack ideas in ‘Contexts to Explore the Christmas story, number 10)
We hope you enjoy exploring these resources and would be really grateful if you would pass them onto your early years colleagues. Thank you! We are very thankful for the support and help of the Scottish Bible Society in the production of these resources.
