During this coronavirus outbreak it is great to hear so many stories of people going the extra mile to help their communities and even strangers. The phrase ‘Good Samaritan’ is being used to describe those undertaking acts of kindness.
Ten Must Know Bible Stories thought this provides a great link to the story of the first Good Samaritan that is found in the Bible. Exploring this story will help children understand where the phrase ‘Good Samaritan’ comes from, develop their understanding of Christian belief and consider how they can be Good Samaritans at this particular time.

This assembly will link to the wonderful things people are doing during this Coronavirus outbreak to help each other. We’ll hear the story of the Good Samaritan and learn where the phrase ‘The Good Samaritan’ originates from. Children will learn the Christian beliefs embedded in the story and consider what made the Good Samaritan’s helpfulness stand out? They’ll be left with the challenges of spotting a Good Samaritan and to be a Good Samaritan.

What’s next? Look out for learn at home resources based on the story of The Ten Commandments coming soon. As children are perhaps becoming frustrated with the rules of social distancing and staying at home this story will help them explore their views on rules. Are they good or bad? Why do we have rules? What rules would they make for their community to follow?
