School Chaplaincy Project News – Training Day for Fife Education

Again working in partnership with the Church of Scotland’s Education Committee this was a training day for Fife Education. Phil Black (Director of Education) opened the proceedings, which were held in Calaiswood Primary School in Dunfermline, with a fifteen minute welcome. His colleague Peter McNaughton (Director of Children’s Services) attended for the close of proceedings and also spoke for fifteen minutes. Both commended the work of the Chaplains. This is the first training day for Chaplains known to have been organised within the last fifteen years. Twenty-four attended the full day, most of them chaplains and a handful of staff from Fife schools. Danielle Jervis, RME teacher from the Waid Academy (Anstruther High School) took part and spoke of her practices in delivering RME and ‘Time for Reflection;’ events. Her presentation was excellent. In the afternoon session a ‘panel’ was formed with Steve (CVE), Danielle (Waid Academy) and two chaplains (one with 30 years experience and one with 5 months experience). Participants found the format helpful and the materials and resources very beneficial. It was significant and important that the event was given a high priority and backing by both the Director of Education and the Director of Child Services.
