We are delighted to provide an online space for reflection and refreshment during these challenging times. Tailored for those who work in and with schools, Professor John Swinton will share with us from his expertise in the fields of mental health, disability, pastoral care and spirituality. Both mental health and additional support needs are significant areas of concern for those in education and this event provides an opportunity to both learn from a leading teacher in associated fields and also reflect on what that means for our own school settings and ourselves.
We are really looking forward to John sharing with us his insights into mental health challenges and spirituality and the encouragement that there is lifegiving hope for everyone in the midst of the storm. During the event there will be spaces to recharge, discuss, think and respond, through breakout room, audio-visual media and Q&A times.
Prof. John Swinton (BD, PhD, RMN, RNMD, FRSE) is a professor of practical theology and pastoral care at the University of Aberdeen, and founding Director of Aberdeen’s Centre for Spirituality, Health, and Disability. He is the university’s Chair in Divinity and Religious Studies. He worked as a nurse for sixteen years initially within the fields of mental health and latterly within the area of learning disabilities. John is an ordained minister in the Church of Scotland, has worked as a hospital chaplain and as a community mental health chaplain. John has a passion for person-centred care which takes seriously the significance of theology, spirituality and religion within the process of healing and has a particular interest in multidisciplinary education and research.
