Retirement of Rev Dr Steve Younger as CVE Scotland Chaplaincy Project Leader
Our School Chaplaincy Project Leader, the Rev Dr Steve Younger, retires from CVE Scotland at the end of this month after 10 years of faithful service. We warmly thank him for his dedication to the charity, his unwavering support to chaplains, and his lifelong passion to serve Scotland’s children and young people. Steve has served as a school chaplain for over 40 years — in primary and secondary schools, Additional Support Needs settings, and ASD bases. In 2018, he earned a Doctorate in Education on Religious Observance and Spiritual Values within Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence.
Alongside chaplaincy, Steve has been deeply involved in Youth and Children’s Ministry — first with Crusaders (now Urban Saints), then for many years with Scripture Union Scotland, and recently with Serve Your Local School. He served as a co-opted member of the Church of Scotland’s Education Committee and is part of the International Association of Children’s Spirituality. Currently, he lectures part-time at the Scottish Baptist College, where in 2023 he created and delivered a stand-alone module in School Chaplaincy — equipping students to connect effectively with local schools.
Through the Church of Scotland, he also trained local authorities in Religious Observance and Chaplaincy. Steve has authored several Time for Reflection booklets: Words, Seasons, Reflections, and Treasures. CVE Scotland’s Management Committee will miss his vision, wisdom, and contribution to our work. We wish him every blessing in the ministries he will continue. We are grateful for his willingness to continue as a volunteer on an ad-hoc basis.
