National Poetry Day 2026 – ‘Wonder’ Bible Resource for Psalms
Teachers, this National Poetry Day (Thursday 1 October 2026) why not explore the wonder of Psalm 8 or 23 with your class?
Psalm 8 is a short, beautiful poem invites children to look up at the night sky and feel amazement: “When I look at the heavens… the moon and the stars…” It then turns that wonder toward people – “What is a human being that you care about us?” – before celebrating the special place and responsibility God has given us in the world.
Or explore Psalm 23. A much-loved poem uses simple, powerful images — a caring shepherd, green pastures, still waters, and a safe path even through dark valleys — to speak of trust, comfort and belonging. It invites children to picture a world where they are looked after, guided and never left alone.
The Bible is full of wonder because its poetry helps us see ordinary things (the sky, the stars, fields, water, light, dark animals, ourselves, ) with fresh eyes of awe, gratitude and care.
